Once you get past the fact that these are cats, and you acknowledge that it’s a kids book, then this is a great narrative! The nostalgia helps too.
Graphic: Murder and Animal death
Moderate: Child death, Injury/Injury detail, Blood, Death, and Kidnapping
Minor: Bullying, Excrement, Grief, and Pregnancy

Rereading these for the first time in like >10 years and the first book knocks it out of the park! I totally remember why I used to play as Warrior Cats all the time when I was a kid.
The worldbuilding is so fun and inspiring, and it’s your classic “kid enters new culture and is trained to be a warrior and struggles through hardship to find community and becomes a part of something greater than himself” story, but it’s done really well.
It’s a bit brutal at times and cats kill each other left and right, but it somehow also has that childlike wonder and play that’s so inspiring.
Can’t wait to continue with the well-written first series and then revisit how things completely go off the rails after that!
