Where it all began. Still such a classic, relaxing and fun story that chilled little old me to the bone back in the day. I would die for Yellowfang and Ravenpaw.

This is going to be a bit of a different review for me, because I've read this countless times, so let me get some biases out of the way. I read this series for the first time during late elementary school, and into early middle school. I enjoyed it then, and most of why I love rereading this series so much is because of the nostalgia it brings. When I discuss the plot and characters, they're going to be discussed in that light.

WRITING STYLE

My copy of Into the Wild is one of the first, so it doesn't have some of the fixed mistakes and retcons, however even with the rushed nature, I have no issues reading it. It's written in third person and features a prologue.

PLOT

Into the Wild has one of my favourite plots of any Warrior Cats book. I love books that introduce you to a new world, and I could spend hours just following Rusty as he explores clan life for the first time. It's smart to have him as the protagonist of the first series, as we get to learn about the world through the eyes of a newcomer.

As for romance, there is none! Honestly, I find it quite refreshing, especially when considering future books in this series.

CHARACTERS

I have a lot to say about the characters in this book (I'll refer to them by the name they are first given in this book, as characters change names frequently. Because this is the first book in a long, long, long, series, seeing these characters again was like reuniting with old friends.

As I stated earlier, Rusty is a great protagonist for the first series. There isn't much else to say about him.

As always, Graypaw is the primary source of humour. He's a little dense, an absolute goof, and a really fun companion for Rusty.

To round out the trio, I must mention Ravenpaw. His plot within this book provides a lot of questions, and sets up the rest of the series well.

Bluestar serves as a great leader for Thunderclan, and her mother-son dynamic with Rusty is very cool. We get to see the start of it.

There are SO MANY characters in this book, it's actually a bit ridiculous. As I read on and get to the moments that make me love some of the more obscure ones, I'll point them out. For now, those are the ones I'll mention.

EMOTIONS

This is a thrilling book. It's fast-paced, curious, and unapologetic in it's harshness, and I mean that. This is not a book for pacifists, young kids, or anyone who isn't a fan of any and all characters they love dying. Seriously, even the characters you think are safe are at risk, whether in these first six books, or in the many, many books to come.
