I enjoyed the first part of the book and learning about the events in Belarus and the photos included. The trial in the second half was informative but felt very drawn out and could have been more succint for me.

This was not what I expected and took a little while to get into, but once I did.. I couldn’t put it down.

To read that a trial in court in UK took its jurors overseas to be in the area of where killings were taking place in world war 2 just amazed me. It must have been a hard case to listen to but even harder for the witnesses to relive when they’ve not spoke about it to their families.

If you’re a fan of World War 2 and history then this maybe one for you - it does give some of the back story to start off with before it gets into the trial itself.

This book is split into two halves: the first being the story of what happened during the war, and the second following the trial.
A very informative piece, I found it easier to follow the trial than the story; I think you have to have a certain level of previous knowledge of the war and the different groups that fought sides of the war, because I felt a little lost due to the terminology in the story.
However, by the time it was referenced in the trial I had more of an understanding, so if you have that knowledge already, I have no doubt you'd follow the story a lot easier than I did.
I found this reflective and emotional nonetheless; yet another POV from the war that added to my knowledge and made me feel for what was lost, who was lost and the lengths those went to to seek and receive justice, even centuries after.
