Really more of a 3.75 but the ending redeemed it. I liked the writing style a lot and really enjoyed the beginning and end but the middle chunk got really dull and i think could’ve been shortened by about 150 pages and still had the same impact.

I can’t believe I put off reading this book for as long as I did. So well-written and gorgeous, and has all the notes of a Greek tragedy.

I love this book but I also don’t love this book. I don’t know. I loved the dark academia vibes and the writing, as well as the character portrayals, but parts of it made me uncomfortable. Maybe that’s a good thing. I found the first 100 pages a bit dull, but the plot did pick up and became very interesting. I loved parts of this book and didn’t like others, but it was still a great read! I think the twins incestuous relationship might have been the dealbreaker for me - those parts just made me SO uncomfortable. But at the same time the characters were so enthralling, and the plot definitely engaged me once the storyline picked up on Bunny’s murder! And the writing was just beautiful, as well as the Greek undertones woven in the story. Overall a good and thought provoking read, and I liked that this book took me out of my comfort zone a little bit.

Reading the last forty pages of the book had me re-enacting that scene in ‘Silver Linings Playbook’ where Bradley Cooper throws a book out of his window immediately after he finishes it. All while exclaiming, “what the fuck!” And this doesn’t mean I disliked this novel, in fact I think it’s one of my favorites of all time.

I think everybody has given this book every imaginable good review possible, so I won’t bother trying to come up with something good. So, I think everybody should read it, love it, and pray it gets it’s very own film adaptation.

I must mention that Joan Didion was set to write the screenplay for a film adaptation of ‘The Secret History’ directed by Alan J. Pakula, but it was scrapped passed in a car crash in 1998. We must mourn what could have been!
