This is my first experience of a radio play, as opposed to an audiobook (is it okay to rate it on Goodreads? I'm in new territory here). I found the voice acting very breathy and overemphasised but this might be a quirk of the genre.

Spaceport Fear stars Six and Mel, and it was a fairly fun adventure. There was an easily identifiable villain and a generic monster that isn't what it seems. What set this story apart for me, though, was the use of puns. It's set in an airport in space inhabited by two warring peoples - Economy and Business. When they are surprised they say Sweet Luggage! Their pledge of allegiance is 'I have something to declare'...it just goes on and on. At first I rolled my eyes but the puns just kept on coming until I couldn't help but enjoy myself.

Another highlight is the Doctor and Mel communicating through the high score function of handheld gaming systems: New high score by player, 'Hi Mel I'm Lost'.

All in all an entertaining listen.

Another great story that shows off Mel a she should have been and the Sixth Doctor as he was meant to become. He's still cranky and conceited, but he's re-learned his manners, which comes in handy when he lands in the middle of a spaceport that's been "quarantined" for so long that its inhabitants have degenerated into a pair of warring tribes -- and are bring stalked by something big, angry and scary. Quite a lot of fun.
