Not to be weird on main but these were perfect bedtime stories. I'm very impressed with the variety of styles the author employed, while simultaneously sticking to very clear overarching themes. Every story was at the very least intriguing enough to me that they were enjoyable to read, but I do think I wish the stories had been mixed a little better (all the odd-format and short ones were near the end, and most of my favourites ended up being early on in the book).
Favourites: What would you give for a treat like me, Nature morte, Such a pretty face, Only corpses stay, Break-up poem recited knee-deep in bog water. The carrier was 100% thematically not my thing but was pretty amazing nonetheless.
There was only one story I actively disliked, The summoning, which I was hoping was going to be funny or something, but nope...

it was a very on-and-off collection of stories for me. i adored many of these, but some stories also fell pretty flat for me. i liked the themes for many of the stories, but i liked the plot even more. for example: i really liked "nature morte", "rath", "big ball of light and the water", "two truths and a lie" and maybe "break-up poem recited in knee deep bog water".
