This book has been living in my brain for about 4-5 months now and I say that with love. I really enjoy poems that challenge me to learn and explore each time I come back to read. This text is a great example of the animism, ambiguous power, surprise, and possibilities within language and also inherent in the acts of writing and reading.

oh, wow! not gonna lie— it was often hard to grasp what was going on. however, the imagery more than made up for it. it's so surreal but so evocative and vivid, violently so. i've been meaning to read cesaire for a while and i don't know that this was the best introduction, but it certainly motivates me to be interested in reading more cesaire.
