I can see how Neal Shusterman has grown as an author. I don't love it as much as his more recent works, but it shows some signs of how his writing would grow. I wish this book could have been written more recently, as young adult books have grown longer on average over time, and I would have liked to have seen more of how this story would have played out.

This book was also eerily nostalgic in that it has a similar plot to one of my early unpublished novel-length works.

A great sci-fi guys read. Fans of Darren Shan might enjoy it.

This book was excellent.
I loved how it kept me on my toes a lot of the time. Though, some things were predictable, others made me go "WHAT?!". That was great.
The characters served their purpose. I liked Jason, he was a strong protagonist. The others were alright. The story is the most important part of this book. It was great. Highly recommend this author, he's a great storyteller.

I've decided that this might be my new favorite author. I mean, who comes up with ideas like this?

A young man discovers that he isn't actually human, but part of an invading alien race. His parents simply decided to "go native" and raised him as a human. Imagine the chaos when you discover this secret about yourself? Or your family? Or your church of similar beings? Wow.

A bit weird, but really well done. Mystery/scifi/coming of age novel.

But man Shusterman knows how to write.

I read this book to my kids. They didn't seem to enjoy it and it was a little too far fetched for them.

**5 STARS**

I LOVED THIS. Neal Shusterman, you have yet to disappoint. I honestly don't think Neal can write a less than amazing book... His stories always catapult you into another world completely, and you find yourself so submerged within his perfectly crafted universes, that you truly start to think they're real. Time after time, his narrative blurs reality with fantasy so flawlessly; so much so that it's hypnotizing. His books always linger in my mind long after I've finished them, and this one has as well. The Dark Side of Nowhere is yet another one of Neal's masterpieces. I really recommend reading some of his novels if you have yet to!

The writing style is good but this was not a great first book to read by Neal Shusterman.

I really wish that we could give half stars because this was almost a four. The book takes a childish idea (my parents are secretly more special than I thought and I'm destined for greatness) and explores the darker side of that in a way that was legitimately disturbing at times. The romance was awkward and I thought that the resolution was rushed but this is a unique book told in a captivating way.

Really cool and slightly creepy, just like the best of Shusterman's books.
