This was just my kind of book. I don’t care if it is considered a “school book.” The style of wring wasn’t dry and boring facts. The writer invites the reader along on a trip through the realms where the Vikings used to live.
We “visited” countries I didn’t know a thing about except their name. We “ate” traditional foods, “slept” in castles, “explored” old ruins, and I ended the book sad to see the trip done. I was fascinated by all the different stories of the history of the countries we visited. Some things I had heard before, other things were new to me. Not only was this a fun read, but there are links in the book so you can go hear how the longest name in the world is pronounced (it has 58 letters!), see videos of the landscapes, learn how to punt, take a look at an ice hotel, and more.
After each country (and during if the country takes more than one chapter) the author includes a list of books you can read. I have only read some of them, but I’m staring my own list of stories that I have for these countries.

Now I want to read another one of these books.

Recommended for any age if you want to learn some interesting things about other countries in a fun and fascinating way.
