While this was a good installment of the series, I wouldn't call it a great one. Even listening I finished the others within a couple of days, slower than I could read them on my own, but still interested enough in the audiobook to keep returning to hear more. With this one I wasn't gripped enough to keep coming back to listen each night and it took me quite a while to listen to it all.

I mean it had a lot of interesting history, much that I wasn't all that familiar with myself so that was a bonus, but parts were farfetched such as a scene where the group is chased by a tiger. And I didn't really care for the character dynamics. The previous books worked toward forging a real connection between Riq and the other two members of their trio and it worked because Sera and Dak weren't on the same page as often as they'd been before all this started. In this book it's Riq on his own again while Sera and Dak repair their friendship so I think that was part of what bothered me. With everything Riq has sacrificed for this mission I want him to be a solid member of the group and I just didn't see that here.

Like I said before it's a good installment, it just wasn't one of my favorites.

I am thoroughly enjoying this series! One thing that really struck me this time is what a great job the various authors have done in keeping the characters consistent. Can't wait for the next read!

Dak, Sera, & Riq continue their journey through time, trying to fix the Breaks and avoid the Cataclysm. In this adventure, they are in ancient Baghdad on the eve of the Mongol invasion. It is up to the three of them, with help from the local Hystorian, to save the great works of Aristotle from destruction. Unfortunately, there are several well-placed Time Wardens, trying to stop their every move. Cave of Wonders is another strong entry in this exciting series. A must read for fans of historical fiction and time travel. I highly recommend reading the first four books first. Recommended for grades 3-7.

Ok story, no insta-love so that's always a plus. Just not as enjoyable as some others. Some parts were good.

Once again the writers working on the Infinity Ring series have placed the characters in a pivotal moment in history and allowed them to interact with famous historical figures. In this fifth installment, the kids (Sera, Dak, and Riq) arrive in Baghdad just in time for the grandson of Genghis Khan to attack the city with the Mongol hordes. While Europe is still in the Dark Ages, Baghdad is home to many libraries and scholars. The Hystorians believe that copies of Aristotle's key works are stored in the House of Wisdom. They must be preserved in order to correct the rest of the Time Breaks that will cause the Cataclysm if left as they are. Riq is still dealing with the fear that his actions in their encounter with the Underground Railroad have altered the future and may have even caused him not to exist in the future. Sera glimpsed the Cataclysm itself during that same mission and is now even more convinced to prevent it. And Dak senses that the other two have secrets, but they won't talk about them. All of that puts a strain on the team - as if they need any more pressure while they are trapped in a city about to be pillaged by Mongols.

There are still lighthearted moments. Dak gets to enjoy some very good cheese (his favorite food). Riq catches himself using Sera's phrase, "Oh, for the love of mincemeat!" and that gives everyone a laugh. Although they don't see Dak's parents, they know they have been in the city and that is reassuring to Dak and Sera. Of course, as soon as events play out, they immediately use the ring to travel to the next break - this one deals with Lewis and Clark's expedition. Westward ho!

I read an e-book provided by the publisher through NetGalley.
