Cricket farm and gymnastics are unique to this story. Throw in a little #metoo and female enterprise and this story was really good.

Thank you NetGalley and the publisher for this eARC in exchange for an honest review.

I am a fan of Kate Messner and my students LOVE her books. I chose this book because it was written by her and knew it would be great. However, it was more than great. This book is powerful and is a great upper middle grade book that is needed. It’s hard to talk about the things that happen in this book without giving too much away, but it deals with friendship, moving, middle school, solving problems, speaking up, and doing what is right even when it’s hard. I loved how she showed that tough things can happen to us, but we have to share those experiences and when you do, you may open others’ up to sharing as well. You may also save others from facing them same experiences. This book is a must read.

Exceptionally well done story that includes budding friendships, an introduction to entrepreneurial activities for kids, a mystery, and (most important) a totally age-appropriate examination of sexual harassment and grooming. I fell hard for the heroine and her brave determination.

I really enjoyed this book that is a mystery but oh so much more. At it's core is the message of You Are NOT Alone. Something we all need to hear but especially middle graders and up. Especially girls. I appreciated all the examples that we given of women/girls feeling like they were small in the eyes of the opposite gender. This is a book that needs to be read. Shared and passed along to all the 5th graders and up that you know.
Highly recommend.

This is a great story about family and the importance of friends. A little bit of mystery and confronting your pasts. This is also about female empowerment and standing up for yourself. By the end Mia stands up for herself and overcomes her fears.
