So fun! Definitely a great introduction to this series. Love Ghost and his storyline with Coach is very effective and well done. Look forward to reading the other books.

Castle Cranshaw (who has nicknamed himself "Ghost") is a troubled kid with a rough past - father is in prison, mom works herself to death to make ends meet, and Ghost struggles to stay out of trouble. But the kid has a natural gift for running, and Coach sees his potential.

I have to say that I didn't expect this book to be this good because, well... it's about running. My motto is why run when you can walk. Heck, I don't even run after the ice cream truck. But, I'm glad I was wrong. It's a simple story, but it really hits all the feels. There were times I held back tears, and others I laughed very loudly. (I love books that make me laugh that hard!)

After stretching and warm-up, the sprinters spent the rest of the practice doing fearless, which sounds like fart licks. Funniest name ever. Fart . . . lick. HA!

That one really got me!

This is a heart-warming story that ANYONE would enjoy, especially reluctant readers (e.g., boys who hate reading).

I will admit the story made a little more sence hearing the first one in the serires. They folw one starting were the other leaves off. I liked Ghost's story. His life seems the hardest of the gorup but there is more to go. We will see, looking forward to the next.

The voice in this book is so clear and distinct that exposition is barely necessary. Castle Cranshaw discovered he could run on one terrible night. When he happens upon a track team, he finds a purpose to running and a group to belong to. This is the first in a series about this track team, and I look forward to reading more about the characters we were introduced to. A lot of heavy, important topics were handled deftly and naturally. I couldn't help but compare it to Crossover, though, and I don't think this has the same universal appeal.

Jason Reynolds is a gem. This is the second book of his that I've read, and I've loved both. One thing I really admire about this book in particular is how well he captures the voice of a young kid. Sometimes when an adult writes from the first person perspective of a kid, it can feel a little....off. You may find yourself thinking, "No kid talks like that." That's definitely not the case here. Ghost was such a great, believable character. Definitely recommend.
