Quite seriously one of the best middle grade series I have lately read. Such fun quirky characters and exciting adventures. Love it!

Maybe the best Eerie-on-Sea adventure so far? This time, the story takes place in November, so it's getting even colder in Eerie and cozier when our protagonists mull over what is happening with a cup of hot chocolate in their hands. I loved the exploration of creepy wax figures combined with clockwork elements and the yearning a certain robot and its story awakens in Herbie. The story moves at a fast pace and many chapters end in cliffhangers, which made me fly through the pages. Loved Herbie's narrative voice as usual and am really looking forward to the conclusion of the story now and what will be revealed about Herbie's past in [b:Mermedusa|160033596|Mermedusa (The Legends of Eerie-on-Sea, #5)|Thomas Taylor|https://i.gr-assets.com/images/S/compressed.photo.goodreads.com/books/1686078876l/160033596._SY75_.jpg|172332846].

four books into the eerie on sea series and this one has definitely recaptured my heart after feeling like shadowghast left me wanting for more than it could give me.

i think the mystery surrounding herbie, the netherways and the iron giant esque robot drew me back in, but i sebastian eels’ ability to return from situations that could only possibly result in death is really growing tiring now - i am starting to assume the man himself is made of clockwork and some bugger just keeps winding him back up!

irwin definitely comes into his own again in this tale, and i admire the person having to do the talking cat parts in the audiobook recording!

this one definitely had me wanting to read the fifth instalment though, in the hope we actually find something out about herbie and the deepest secret!
