It was a long time ago and I remember really liking it... so much so that seven years later, I forced my husband to read it too. Of course, when he wanted to talk about it, I couldn't remember anything, so perhaps it's time for a re-read.

Striking sentences, detailed historical context, emotional plot lines and character development. I did feel my engagement waning at points

I really enjoyed this book. It has everything. Superheroes. Magicians. Historical fiction. Good story. Up until the last third of this book it was a 5. No doubt. The last bit jumps through time it was hard for me to keep up. It got less lighthearted and much slower. Overall loved.

There are only a couple of books that have made me miss my subway stop; "The Amazing Adventures of Kavalier and Clay" is one of them. A must read for those who relish good writing.

The characterizations were great but I wish the characters would have gotten out of their own ways.
