My first Ronald Malfi book and I enjoyed it. Another "horror" recommendation that I will have to disagree with. While a nice suspense with a tiny bit of supernatural thrown in, I didn't really get the horror/fear vibe I'd read and heard about.
All in all I did enjoy the story, a nice pace of writing, and overall not bad.

When Aaron Deckers wife Allison is tragically killed one cold December morning, his life is flipped upside down. Already stricken with his grief, to make matters worse he discovers a locked chest in her closet. Upon opening he finds all your normal standard things, plus a couple that are not, like a revolver and a stack of files on murdered women. He discovers his wife has been keeping secrets, and he may not know who she was after all. So, he decides to follow the path she was on, and continue the hunt that she started, taking his grief and her ghost with him.

This book still has me in a chokehold, days after finishing it. This isn’t pure horror, or supernatural, what it is, is a love letter. How when you lose someone you love, you become haunted by their absence and your own grief. Just as Aaron was haunted, so was Allison. I loved the writing, it’s definitely a slower burn, but the story is so beautifully written in my opinion, not what you would normally expect with horror. The mystery is exciting, the atmosphere is dark and chilly, and it really has the power to make you feel what Aaron is feeling and what Allison was feeling. I just loved it, it was haunting in the best way. This is a great book to start with if you’re dipping your toes into horror, or if grief horror is your thing, this one is for you.

Although this would be classed as a thriller, this is really a slow burn yarn about a man trying to grieve for his murdered wife whilst continuing her legacy which just so happens to involve the unravelling of a murder mystery. It’s emotional, it’s haunting and it’s completely immersive. I felt so bonded to Aaron and went through it all with the guy!! There’s the small town sense of isolation and secrets throughout and I was there, on the journey as he discovered vered who his wife really was and what she was looking for. The writing is gorgeous, the pacing is perfect - I loved it!!
Come With Me immediately reminded me of Michelle McNamara and her quest to find the GSK - right down to her untimely passing and the continuation of her work. If you are a fan of I’ll Be Gone In The Dark - give this one a read. In fact, I point blank recommend this book to everyone.
