Background:
This book portrays the journey of humans and Grisha, people with superpowers. The book mainly focuses on the lives of six members of the Dregs gang, with each chapter presenting a different point of view.

Overall:
Although I enjoyed reading it, the beginning was a bit slow for my taste, and it took me about a week to finish it. It would have been great to have a chapter in Wylans POV, but unfortunately, it did not happen. Though the book is quite hyped, I do not think it deserves a perfect five-star rating. I think there could have been more explanation of the Grishas' powers and the Fjerdians better (mainly their connection with wolves, it was described but I don't understand from where they got this connection) Some pages were hard to read and it felt like I read but page but did not retain any information. So I may have skipped over some important details.

Characters:
It is hard to think of these characters as just teenagers when they have been through so much. The relationship between each character is great, and they seem to have different personalities around everyone but it makes sense and is not forced. Great character development throughout the story. You can watch as all the characters grow as a person with this experience.

Plot Twists:
The plot twists were a fun addition to the book but none that I truly gasped at, but they were not bad at all. The last couple of chapters held the most plot twists and I did not guess any of them. There was one that I did gasp at.

Romance:
I loved the loving banter between the characters and their love did not feel forced, they are the true meaning of soulmates.

This is a booktok book that did not disappoint, if you were thinking about it READ IT! This is not one of the books that I can't find the plot, I knew exactly what the plot was. I give props to the author for writing such an intriguing book but I did not like waiting 200+ chapters for true action.

This book was amazing! I love the diversity between the main characters and their personalities are so unique. This book was so intriguing and intense it kept me wanting to read more to see what was gonna happen. The writing style itself is amazing with the setting descriptions, the characters unique personalities, and the great plot. I love that all 6 main characters each had their moment to shine. This get 5 stars from me! Can’t wait to read the second book.

My son forced me to read this. He was right, it was great. Loved all the characters and the trauma they endured and survived.

I enjoyed this one more than I thought I would (which I know sounds weird) because I bought it before I finished the shadow & bone trilogy in 2021, and didn’t end up liking the third very much, so I kept putting this one off. We’ve been watching the Netflix show and liking it, but I was confused by some things that seem like they are from this trilogy and not the first one. But that’s ok because it made me want to read this trilogy more than I had before, so I’m not mad about it at all. And I did really enjoy this one! On to the next one.
