Fake dating but wolf shifter style! This is the first shifter book I've read and was actually hesitant to read it even though I enjoyed the author's first book (it was not the same subgenre). I've been reading Omegaverse books tho and this is similar but fated mates, so I went for it. I'm not sure how other shifter books are, but in this one they only shifted once and not for very long, so it was more about their human side and I enjoyed that. He's the grump, she's jokey and pulls him out of his shell, they decide to enjoy the benefits of their arrangement and of course that makes them more aware of their connection and true feelings. Add in a villain at their gossipy hospital where they work and it made for a believable third act break up. I enjoyed it and the author's writing was great again. Looking forward to her next one!

stop! sniffing each other! sniffing each other is not the basis of a romance plot! I know this is published omegaverse, I know that's part of the point, but I literally cannot get over how much sniffing happened in this novel and how much it substituted actual interaction and thought!

sniffing aside (sniffing is not set aside, I'm heated about the sniffing), this novel is just trope-y nonsense. you can't just declare sunshine x grumpy and then not actually develop them as people if you want me to care about them dating, or fake dating, or not dating at all. not to sound like the worst kind of booktok influencer, but I HAVE read better omegaverse fanfiction that has put 10x more thought into its plot and characters.

I feel like it didn’t stand out to me personally. Maybe it’s due to the amount of Omegaverse fanfictions I’ve read but I found that it was missing something
The smut was well written though… so love that!
