“If I could survive a car accident and the aftermath that followed, I could survive a handful of bratty teenagers with chips on their shoulders. I was one of them. Whether they wanted me or not.”

I’m a bitch for summer camp settings. And for plots involving troubled teen establishments.

I adored Grant and Alex’s version of enemies-to-lovers since they were more snarky with each other and called the other person out for their crap rather than loathed the other person for petty reasons. I enjoyed their dynamic. I won’t lie. I wanted Grant more for myself as the book progressed. Still rooted for him and Alex. As someone who doesn’t like opening up, I appreciated his whole “I never mentioned it because we weren’t talking about anything related to it” and how he didn’t force Alex to share her story.

My only real issue with the book, avoiding spoilers, was that I wish we had more context involving events in the prologue. It would’ve been more impactful and easier to empathize with Alex if we could see and feel more of her grief, guilt, and struggle. I feel as if a lot of it was shown/told in fragments or a single sentence here and there. We learn more eventually but a build-up would’ve been better.

A lot of the dialogue felt forced and cringey, but this is a gem: “Snitches get stitches.” “Hit me and you’ll get some too.”

If you want a short and simple read for one sitting, I recommend this one.

This just became one of my new favorite books! I loved every single page of this book with my entire heart and I so want a sequel to know about Grant and Alex. Shannon Klare did an outstanding job of developing Alex and Grant as characters and added so much depth to them that I didn’t know was possible. Having Alex and Grant both have pasts that haunt them and have shaped them into the people they were today, and sharing a similar experience, really made me fall in love with them even more and made them feel real. As I read this book, I felt like I knew who they were, but Klare kept adding layers that I didn’t know existed. I also liked how she set the book at a camp setting because it really tied into Alex not being able to face the real world before she could face her demons. I would definitely recommend this book to anyone because it not only was a great romance, it was a great story of overcoming your past and putting forth the effort to let go.

Favorite Quote: “You’ll realize the lessons they have to teach you are way more important than protecting yourself from whatever you’re trying to keep out.”

I really liked the characters of Alex and Grant. They were relatable and their banter was fun. The setting of a camp was a bit different than what I initially pictured. I was thinking a traditional summer camp on a lake in Texas, but instead it was for youths that had gotten into trouble or had bad living situations. That being said, I enjoyed Alex's campers Jess and Brie. They added another layer to the story and Jess played an important role in Alex opening up.

This book was a quick read but I do wish we delved deeper into Alex's feelings and even Grant's. It felt like there was more story to be told.

*This book was given to me by the publisher to give an honest review in return*

This book was just wow. I read it in one day in one sitting which explains how much I enjoyed it. It was a cute contemporary read that takes place in a kid's camp in Texas. Alex is shipped off to a camp in Texas where she has to be a counselor and is partnered up with a hot guy. Alex tries to make herself have the best summer and tries to open up Grant, the hot counselor. I loved the writing and how well paced it was. There were some funny jokes I laughed at and it was just a fun, easy read.

The characters in this book were enjoyable and relatable. I loved the slow burn relationship in this book and seeing the development between Grant and Alex. It was also nice to see how brave Alex was and seeing her developments throughout the story. She is a person who doesn't want help and doesn't really trust people but opens up to Grant.

The setting of this book was the best part of the book because I loved how the author describes the setting. Since I read this book in the Summer, it was such a perfect read. It was also relatable with all the hot heat in Texas so I knew what the characters had to go through in the heat.

This book also talks about grief and life struggles. I love how well the author wrote the character's struggles so well and making it love story at the same time. I recommend this book to those who love to read cute contemporary reads that take place in a summer camp. This is a book that I will most likely reread when I'm feeling down and need a good laugh or if I'm under a book hangover.

This was a lovely book! I enjoyed the slow romance, and the setting was great as well, I love reading about summer camps. I especially loved the James Arthur reference; he's one of my favourite artists!

YA Romance is my go-to when I am looking for a fun, fast, read. Last Chance Summer has all the potential to being that summer read, but it just fell short for me. Alex, daughter of a sheriff, has fallen off the deep end. After blaming herself for the death of her best friend, she spirals out of control. Her parents gave her one last chance to figure life out when they sent her to work as a counselor at her aunt's summer camp for troubled kids. There Alex meets Grant and romance sparks. There was so much potential here to dig deeper into both Alex and Grant's backstories, but it missed the mark for me.

I loved this! I had read Surviving Adam Meade last year and have been craving another Shannon Klare book since. Her writing style flows so well and her stories are adorable and cheesy yet so relatable! If you need something to get you out of a slump I 10/10 recommend this book!

This was a really cute book. Alex is in a heap of trouble and is sent to her aunt’s summer camp as a counselor. Meanwhile, Grant is the senior counselor at the camp and immediately, Alex has a crush on him, despite him being a complete hardass. Soon they find common ground and commodity among their campers. Alex learns more about herself during that summer and learns that through forgiving herself, she gains so much more.

3.5 Stars - Last Chance Summer was a fun YA romance where we follow Alex who has recently gotten into some trouble as well as recovering from an accident. Her parents decide that since she failed her senior year that before she starts it over she is going to spend the summer as a camp counselor at her Aunt's camp in Texas. Alex who is still dealing with the guilt and trauma from her accident the previous fall does not want to be there and is making things a little difficult for her co-counselor Grant. I really enjoyed following Alex as she learned to trust others around her all while trying to deal with her accident. I really enjoyed the banter between Alex and Grant and their relationship was fun to see grow, it wasn't quite enemies to lovers but it was close. My one real complaint was that I felt it was too short. In the beginning there are references to a person and an accident that Alex was involved in and she had some strong feelings about this person but it is never explained at all. I felt that having that information could have helped understand Alex's character a little more. I also wanted some more from Grant because I really liked his character. Over all it was a fun read and I will be picking more up from this author in the future.
