Another great installment in the series!!! I enjoyed every page of the book - the plot was very unexpected ( and what an ending!!!), romantic tension was exciting, there were many appearances of the characters from the previous book, which I liked very much. Wonderful read!!!

I just didn't like this story. At the very beginning when they mention his shameful secret, I hoped it wasn't going to be what I thought it was. It was. This was just ridiculous. Not sure I would continue the series if I hadn't already bought them, especially with phrases like "her dark portal."

This was my third read in the series, and the only one that worked for me was Amaury's Hellion. This book started out strong, a good four-star read, but it lost something towards the end and just couldn't recover.

It doesn't help that the villain is pretty obvious early on, and the sex is fairly lackluster.

When Gabriel was more fully introduced to us in Amaury's Hellion, I wanted to know more about his story. But the turn this one took threw me for a loop.

Gabriel was a man that has been tortured by a bodily deformity he's had since birth. He was shunned and scarred by his wife, who deemed him a monster because of it. He volunteered to be turned into a vampire hoping that would make him feel better about himself. Unfortunately he didn't. So here he was, a 180+ year old vampire who has had limited sexual experience because of his deformity.

Along comes Maya, a doctor who was attacked outside her apartment by a rogue vampire who started the turning process with her. Gabriel is immediately drawn to her and vows to protect her. When he's faced with the prospect of her dying because the turning was happening correctly, he offered up his blood because he couldn't face her death.

Maya has to face the death of her human life, but in addition, she has to deal with being an abnormal vampire since drinking human blood makes her sick. The only blood she craves is from Gabriel. While she was initially scared of the scarred man, she soon finds herself having to deal with an attraction to him that seems to grow with each passing day.

The two of them have to deal with communication issues and their own insecurities in order to find themselves on the path to happily ever after. But they also need to deal with the fact that both of them are only half vampires.

Through a witch, they discover they are both half satyr and that Gabriel's deformity is actually an essential satyr "bit". This is when things got a little strange for me, but Tina Folsom worked the extra bit into the storyline (you'll have to read it to find out what that is).

Loved the Rogue storyline and how someone close to the Scanguards went bad. The Rogue was definitely not who I thought it was and even when the signs were there, I didn't want to believe it. It was this storyline that kept me reading, rather than the romance between Gabriel and Maya.

Not my favorite of the series, but still an entertaining read.

100% adult read. No kiddies aloud. If you’re timid about reading some very sexy scenes, beware, because this book is packed full of them. Note the cover art. This pretty much tells you what you’ll be reading. Gabriel’s Mate is a fun read, not too much depth and lots of action, romance and of course, hot bedroom scenes. We know the formula, but it works and it’s entertaining. It’s nice to shake things up sometimes and read something light and adult once in a while.

Even though some of the intimate scenes are pretty scandalous, the other scenes are equally interesting. Maya is bitten by a rogue vampire and becomes a vampire herself, yet something is very off. She doesn’t want to drink human blood, she wants Gabriel’s blood. Between Dr.Drake and the witch he knows, Francine, that Gabriel discovers that both he and Maya aren’t 100% vampire. I’ve never read anything about “Satyrs” before, and I’ve read a lot of Urban Fantasy books. I wonder if that is something that Ms.Folsom just made up, if so, that was pretty interesting and it really fit the story. If you don’t already know what “Satyrs” are known for, too bad, because I’m not going to explain it in this review. LOL, you’ll have to read it yourself.

Along with Maya discovering who she is, she quickly figures out that she has fallen for Gabriel. On top of those two intense things, she also has to deal with the rogue who bit her and has been stalking her for months. Though I figured out who the bad guy was pretty quickly, it didn’t deter me from wanting to read on. I think it’s easy to put two and two together. Possibly the author could have made that part a little harder to figure out. Regardless, Maya and Gabriel are endearing. Very cute couple and their flaws make them perfect together. They have some kinky stuff going on, but don’t all the Scanguard Vamps?

As I read the book, it refreshed my memory about the first two Scanguard books I’d read a while back, the story of Samson and Delilah and Amaury and Nina. Both of those books were good also. There is an excerpt of book 4 at the end, and I’m looking forward to reading it because Yvette finally gets her mate the next book. I even wonder if Thomas, the gay vampire in the group, will get his own book...possibly involving Eddie?! Hmm, the possibilities are interesting.

If you liked the first two books, you’ll enjoy this one as well.

Gabriel's Mate
4 Stars

The best story in the series so far.

The explanation of Gabriel's problem is not unexpected but everything he goes through makes him a very endearing hero and Maya's complete acceptance of him is simply wonderful.

The stalker subplot provides good background and insight into some of the secondary characters.
