***Ostrov panenek***

This books was a DNF. Disliked all the characters and just couldn't get into the story. This one was not for me.

I was drawn to this book for the premise of the story. An island of dolls. That is very creepy. I know that I would not want to spend a day or even a night on an island like this.

The story starts out good. It definitely grabbed my attention. Instantly, I imagined myself on the island with Jack and his friends. Jack is kind of the main voice for the six friends. The story alternates between him and Maria. Maria's story is the past.

She was obsessed with her doll. Her mother could not get it away from her. I preferred Maria's story than really the present. Partly due to the fact that none of the others were that endearing. I did not care if something happened to them.

Honestly, I figured this whole story out very early on. There were no great surprises and the "scary" factor was low. The whole concept of the dolls does get a higher rating for creepy. Overall, I was a bit disappointed in this book but I would try another one by this author.

Bates has a way of getting you hooked from the start. I love the character development and plot. Can't wait to read more of the world's scariest places books.

This genre was definitely new for me and I was honestly pretty skeptical to read it. I must admit that I do not enjoy horror movie. I am scared really easily and they freak me out. Reading a horror book was not what I expected at all. I really enjoyed the pace and there were twists and turns along the way which made you keep guessing and wanting to read more. I even liked the POV changing and even going back and forth in time. It wasn’t confusing to keep track of where you were and whose POV you were reading because each of the characters had such distinct voices. Not many of the characters were very likable but it didn’t detract from your enjoyment of the story. It wasn’t too scary but once you get about two thirds in I wouldn’t recommend reading this at night by yourself if you get freaked out easily. Overall I am glad I gave it a shot and really enjoyed the read. I wouldn’t say it’s my favorite genre but I would definitely consider picking up another one in the future. 3/5 stars. 10/1/17
