I loved this! Well-written fantasy is one of my favourite things to read, and this fits that description. The prose is beautiful, the characters interesting, and the plot engaging. It's one of those books that will appeal to readers of both fantasy and literary fiction. I am moving straight to the second one, and will do a full review of this in a wrap-up video soon.

Magical
The story read like a fairy tale, and was beautifully written. Fabiom grew up in the story, but his character did more than that. It was a personal growth that was shown throughout the story. Mellor writes a wondrous, lyrical tale as Fabiom is torn about what to do with his life and if he should remain true to himself. It's a grand prose of a story that leaps off the page, dripping with mystery and beauty.
