I loved this right up to the end, which is cut mercilessly short. I feel a bit cheated by the story ending where it does. It doesn't sit right with the incredible build-up that's been crafted to that point. Otherwise this is a stunningly atmospheric gothic ghost story that doesn't shy away from darkness and ambiguity. I was really invested in Abby as a character and her journey.

Gorgeous art style, gorgeous writing, absolutely do not understand the ending and I don’t think I ever will. And I think I have to be okay with that.

I feel like Emily Carroll is well versed in writing these kinds of endings which are infuriatingly confusing. Infuriatingly, because they fit the feeling of estrangement, yearning and sad fear so damn well.

Emily Carroll's style is so distinctive and gorgeous - there are some pages that I could stare at for hours and keep finding something new.

The ending is so abrupt at first I felt cheated, but after sitting with it, I love that it's ambiguous. Who's to know who's telling the truth? Does it really matter by the end? What IS truth? This graphic novel is going to leave my thinking for a long time

Drawings are gorgeous, sucks you in, twist at the end…. But too sad and scary for me personally.
