I ended up loving this book. I am surprised the author managed to fit so much in 330 pages. I still wish it were longer because I would have like to see more of the character relationships. However, this was a constantly moving plot and I couldn't put it down. I loved that I never knew who to trust, including the MC. It kept me on my toes. I found some of the plot predictable but never the characters.

Brilliant stuff Kirus reviews described it "the narrative’s strengths lie in an intricate and unpredictable plot that resists easy tropes and textured and evocative worldbuilding. All characters are Persian. An alluring feminist fairy tale. (author’s note, further reading)" and I have to agree.

Sadly, this book was a bit of a disappointment for me. I was so intrigued by the idea of our main character being poisonous to others and how she interacts with the world with that, but it wasn't really that at all. The plot changes about a third of the way through the book, and everything up until then is incredibly rushed. I kept getting feelings that it was going in a retelling of an old legend, which I would've loved, but then it ended up feeling jumbled in itself--possibly with trying to keep up with the fairytales it was trying to emulate. I wanted to love the romance (romance(s) I guess?) but I felt like it was also rushed and that it was incredibly sudden.

I love the idea of a girl that who’s deadly to touch but I just found the book as a whole, a very generic YA fantasy
