I got this book at the second hand shop because the cover looks cute and summery and I thought it might make me cry. This book was not what I expected at all. I don’t know how it is labeled as young adult with all of the adult content happening in the book. It’s especially weird that some of the characters are very young doing hardcore drugs. I didn’t hate the book as it had some interesting and shocking moments, but I don’t think I would recommend this to anyone.

In high school, I hung out with guys like Travis, and Michael, and Cliff, and Kyle; and girls like Laura, and Claire, and April, and Vanessa. I don't often think about what would have happened to me if I stuck with them, but this book made me go back to a part of my teenage years that I had almost completely forgotten.

I'm going to be thinking about this book for a long time.

This book was really good, even if it took me a long time to finish it.

It's about a nineteen year old boy named Travis Wayne, who hangs out with the wrong crowd. He starts doing coke while in Hawaii, and leaves in fear of something that happens there. Would be a spoiler to say what happens, but the book was really great.

In essence, it's about self doubt and learning what it means to have a purpose in life. The main character is empty inside and confused. I really did enjoy going on the journey with him, and while he did bug me sometimes, I really enjoyed reading about his character.

Jason Myers proves from the get-go that he can write dark realistic fiction well. And I highly recommend this debut from 2007. Though, it's not for the faint of heart.

Moral of the story: don't do drugs, kids.

This book was “okay”. It was a slow start for me and I absolutely hated the way the author wrote dialogue. I was unable to tell if the narrator was speaking out loud or thinking. Maybe I’m naive but I also think the characters in this book are exaggerated and unrealistic...especially for their age. The dialogue and scenes were extremely cringey at some points.

I reread this book from early high school in an effort to remember why it was on my shelf and I truly couldn’t tell you.

Rich white kid finally has to take responsibility for what he does while he’s high? Cool. Not to mention that horrible things happen to basically all the female characters.

Not worth the read in my opinion
