I love the fight scenes & the relationship building between the characters! Fabuluous series overall so far!

The one thing that I don't personally love is all the 'story telling' - like pausing in the middle of a fight to tell me a story about how the investigator that's fighting also fought some other ghoul and how that went...

But other than that, all positive things to say!

It was okay. Some really great moments and some truly confusing moments.

Beware of the SPOILERS in this review!

So, this was a tiny bit better. Not a lot, but at least enough to higher the rating. There were some cool fights, especially regarding Kaneki and at least some emotional substance when it comes to his internal struggle. I also liked some things about the twins.

Okay so Kaneki kinda goes a bit crazy in this volume. It’s like the ghoul inside of him and all the ghoul meat he ate is consuming him. I mean… he literally starts eating that investigator and if Amon didn’t stop him and bring him to his senses, who knows what would’ve happened. It was really interesting and I wish we saw more of Kaneki reflecting on what he did but the plot just keeps moving forward so that sucks a little.

I also really liked the fight between the twins and Juzo and their backstory. It was cool to see how deranged Juzo really is and always has been, along with the fact that he was apparently raised by a ghoul. But yeah, this dude is insane. He literally stitches his own stomach up when one of the twins splits it open.

Unfortunately, there is quite a lot of investigator shit in this volume. I still don’t like it, but at least it gets a little more personal. I like that we got to see more of Akira and expand on her relationship with Amon when she was drunk. It would be interesting to see her actual feelings for him. Also she has a cat waiting for her at home and that made my day.

The rest isn’t really that interesting. Kaneki goes to a book signing with Hinami so that’s something. And the author looks kinda suspicious and Hide is there too so that might lead to something. Also Kaneki asks Uta about Yomo and their backstory is one of the things that excited me the most in here.

Overall, this was not that bad but it’s still kind of a drag and it still focuses on the worst aspects of the story. I’m giving it 3 stars because it’s definitely better than the previous volumes but it’s far from perfect.

~4/5

We get a little history here between Shiro and Kuro, and their surprising relation to Juzo. They're all rather messed up, though I kind of feel bad for Shiro and Kuro. Most of this was done to them, even if they maybe agreed at the beginning. Now, they only have each other.

We also see what has become of Ken. He seems to have reached a breaking point, and he's even more different now. Apparently his decision to only eat and hunt ghouls has changed him, and he doesn't even know himself anymore.

We also get some glimpses of some other characters, and some plot lines moving in the background. Among that, we see a relationship development between Amon and Mado. She usually stays rather stoic and doesn't give anything away, and doesn't have any outside-work relations, but she reveals some deeper feelings here. They have an odd relationship, to say the least.

Violence galor, Ken seems to have snapped and is trying to come back from it. There's an interesting reprieve where Ken and Hinami meet an author they like, though I'm sure more will come of it.

We're getting ever closer to the end, and I'm intrigued by all of it.
