“You may write me down in history
With your bitter, twisted lies,
You may tread me in the very dirt
But still, like dust, I’ll rise.

This book was informative, but it couldn’t match up to the eloquence of the subject herself. I immediately went to reserve some books from the author.

Maya Angelou was an amazing person. This book brings her back to life again. She wrote some amazing poems. This book inspired me to check out some of her poems. This was a great book!

I really enjoyed Maya's story. I personally have yet to read any of her books, but I have heard many good things about them.

This was informative, but I didn’t like the pacing. It felt very rushed and like it was just shoving information at me. I would have liked more substance. This is a very popular series and I was expecting more. This series is written by different authors, so I am hoping that maybe other books are better.

One of my goals for the year is to read more of these because it’s a pretty handy way to get quick bites of knowledge.

Maya seemed the perfect place to start and I was not disappointed. What’s a fabulous, inspiring human she was!

I didn’t like this one as much as the Panama Canal one. I think with places it’s easier to create context. But I still love this series. They talk about serious topics and it’s great exposure to quality narrative nonfiction.
