The Library Book by Tom Chapin and Michael Mark and illustrated by Chuck Groenink is easily my new favorite picture book. It illustrates the wonder and fun that kids can have in a library with their character-friends.

I have never in my life heard this song before. Beautiful artwork.

It was better when I found a YouTube video that sang the song.

The concept and artwork of this book are quite cute and appealing, but as a children's librarian I cannot recommend a book that perpetuates librarian stereotypes. The librarian depicted in this picture book is white, has a cat companion, says "shh", checks out the child's library books, and most bizarrely asks the main character if they are "sure you want all these" books. These are all common stereotypes of what librarians do, none of which are true. Perhaps the authors should have actually visited a library to see what a modern public librarian does before writing this book.

Only thing about this fun song about a rainy day in the library... is that every book name-checked is by a white creator and features white or animal characters.

With sheet music for the end papers, this could be sung as a song, but I wasn't able to catch the right rhythm to the words, so it felt awkward reading it.

I love the library! I love the idea of being able to walk there on a rainy day and pick every book you want. I love that this book gives the music to sing/play the song!

Cute and repetitive...does seem like the folks writing the story haven't been in a library anytime recently which made me appreciate it much less.
