This was a lot of fun to read. The exploits of Derek Badger made me laugh so often that the people around me wanted to know what was so funny.

I loved every page of this goofy book. The wacky characters simply cracked me up, but there's more than just humor--it's got some substance, too. The characters learn and grow as they make you laugh. I'm anxious to get my hands on some more Carl Hiaasen stories now.

A solid middle grade book! As an animal planet nerd, I enjoyed this a lot. The Steve Irwin references made it 100x better

In a way I feel like Hiassen tells the same story over and over again, but maybe that is because his characters just don't stand out as unique or really special in any way. They are good kids, but there isn't much depth beyond that, even Tuna's abusive living situation comes across as a textbook example. I didn't hate the story, but it just didn't do anything for me.

The fatphobia throughout was disappointing and distracting.
Aside from that I really liked this book (the very first I’ve read by Carl Hiaasen). Wahoo and Tuna were incredibly lovable, with Mickey close behind. This book was exciting and charming, while also dealing with some pretty heavy topics. I also loved the animal facts sprinkled throughout (yes, alligators go through 3000 teeth in a lifetime, really).
I thought James Van Der Beek did a nice job narrating.

3.5 stars.
Listened to this one on audio with Leo and Lucia on day trips. We all liked this a lot. I thought the narration from James Van der Beek was great. The story went off the rails a little bit at the end... but otherwise, a funny story with great characters.

Listened to this book on audio with the kids. It was fun and engaging, and really made my seven year old think about how real "reality" shows are.
