Man, I was so close to loving this book. Neo-noir absurdism? Check. Experimental language-play humor? Check, and sometimes it was even funny.  Social critique? Uh, almost check, but close enough for government work. If only the author hadn’t been quite so self-impressed…and if only he hadn’t imported (along with the ‘70s zany humor from which he clearly drew inspiration) a rampant and dreary misogyny. If he’d been funnier about then misogyny he might have gotten away with more.
