That Kokushibo, such a character. Like, really. I'm not about to give an analysis of him but wow. I was so fascinated by his backstory, I just cannot fathom being that jealous and unempathetic to my brothers.

I've already had Muichiro's fate spoiled for me but I'm not exactly looking forward to reading it regardless. Also very upset about Genya. We're one step closer to the final fight though!

“HAVE I LIVED
HUNDREDS OF YEARS FOR THIS?”

“WAS I SO
AFRAID OF DEFEAT THAT I BECAME A MONSTER?”

“DID I WANT TO BE
STRONG EVEN IF IT MEANT EATING PEOPLE?”

I really thought that volume 18 was going to be the hardest hitting volume emotionally in the series, but I was so wrong. This volume is the fight against and the defeat of Kokushibo, and while 5 men entered, only 2 leave. The sacrifices are not in vein, and the emotional toll that the sacrifices of Genya and Muichirō, specifically Genya who just truly reconciled with Sanemi, hit way more than I was expecting from the beginning of this volume. The fact that Sanemi and Gyome do emerge victorious only shows that it is the way of the Demon Corps to give everything they have to bring a brighter future, one that is rid of demons.
