Like all Gay, challenging, this one especially so. Just tragic honestly, incredibly hard to read, deeply disturbing. Important though. And masterful writing.

Complicated, dark, and very hard to read.  The complete destruction of a woman and her family at the hands of kidnappers who took her from outside her family compound in Port-au-Prince.  Reads extremely quickly but not easily!  Not for the faint of heart but worth the time if you can push through.  My favorite parts centered on the time Mireille spent in Nebraska.  Graphic but not gratuitously so.  It's like reading The Yellow Wallpaper - you need to feel the descent.  That was done well.
