This was a fun read using the framework of Anne of Green Gables, but with witches!

4 stars.
A cute found family story about a talkative but lonely young orphan girl and a angry witch that slowly but surely grows fond of her. I really enjoyed reading it.

I absolutely adored this book. The prose and story were both so enchanting and kept me interested every moment I spent reading. Grace was such a lovely main character and her ramblings and thoughts were so interesting and honestly inspiring. I would love to be able to think the same way she does. All of the spells were so fun to read and I loved how the world of faerie was integrated into the story a bit, it reminded me of Emily Wilde’s Encyclopedia Of Faeries which was the exact reason I decided to pick up this book. The prose from that series really shone through and it was delightful to read!! I’d highly recommend this book if you like that series or Anne Of Green Gables. I haven’t yet read Anne Of Green Gables but I did watch the show Anne With an E and was thinking about it the entirety of the book. The poems at the beginning of each chapter was such a lovely little addition to the book, especially because 4 poems were by my favorite poet Christina Rossetti.

I adored this Anne retelling mixed with Magic and it still gave me the same seen feelings as Anne's books give me. It has the same feel in the beautiful and cozy setting that Avonlea does but with the real feel of magic being where you least expect it. From Grace's familiar in Wind Weaver to the witch's cottage and fairy land.
The retelling does changer each character's name like Anne becomes Grace but you can still match each name change to their original characters if you pay attention to the characteristics. I loved little things like how you can tell a witch's heart beat from a human's to each spell in the grimoire.
It also pays homage to the pace of the original story being slow and a little meandering but in a good way where you can take in the beauty and whimsy of each setting.
Grace's curious, poetic, creative, abundantly emotional and empathetic spirit spoke to me and made me feel seen the same way Anne's does. The way poetry is used before each chapter to emphasize her love and the beauty of it is perfect. There are so many things I adored about this book and would adore another if the author decides to put one out. There was one quote that did stick with me though and really goes into the heart of the Anne of Green Gables series leaving friendship at its core. "Being friends with someone is like having a safe and happy place to visit when you need to". This is why quality over quantity matters.
I definitely will need a copy in all formats when I want something cozy and a smile.

All the best parts of Anne of Green Gables, plus all the magic Anne could have ever imagined. As though Anne herself wrote her life story, adding all the magic she could conjure.
