I didn’t think I would like this book. I’ve read a few books by comedians and they tend to be a very hit or miss category. I didn’t know much about Mindy Kaling before I started but I dove in because of the good reviews. It was very funny. So light and fast and easy and the perfect summer read.

This book was written by a nice person with a good ear for humor. Unfortunately, it is basically about nothing. It is an erratic collection of things that Mindy Kaling decided were good conversation topics, which is an excellent format for a conversation between friends, but which unfortunately is not well-suited to a book.

This one just didn't live up to the hype for me.

Mindy Kaling was a writer for the tv show "The Office". Being a comedy writer I'm surprised that her book wasn't all that funny. Her stories were interesting and entertaining but not really funny. If you are a big fan of Mindy and interested in peeking into her world by all means read the book but if you are looking for a good laugh, look elsewhere.

Not my favorite memoir, but it wasn't terrible. I get it she's a comedian, and sarcasm and self deprecating humor are unavoidable. Some parts were funny, and others unnecessary. Mindy did touch on some actual human feelings though and reality and I appreciated that. An easy read.

I know that Mindy Kaling's sense of humor is not for everyone but I'm a big fan. I really enjoyed this book - don't expect anything more than what you might find in a book by Ellen Degeneres or Tina Fey. This is a fun, light hearted quirky read but with the potential I suppose to hurt some feelings. Particularly Rainn Wilson's feelings. Kaling is occasionally opinionated and not prone to holding anything back.

What can I say? I'm a Mindy Kaling fan. She's hilarious! Though this wasn't a bust-a-gut type read, it was funny, amusing and I really enjoyed it. Like Tina Fey's "Bossypants" I recommend one get the audiobook - to hear it read in the voice of the writer is even better!

This really wasn’t a good book. I think I got it from the little free library down the street when I was deep into The Mindy Project ❤️. So I just found it on my bookshelf. Maybe it would have been better if I had ever seen an episode of The Office? I gave it two stars though. One for the marriage rant (essay?) and one for making me think of something other than COVID19 before bed the last few days.
