Shout out to Becky Albertralli for promoting this AMAZING book on her Instagram, because I never would have found it otherwise and I'm so grateful that I have!!! Totally worth my purchase. 😊🌷 I maybe even care about soccer now πŸ˜‚πŸ‘

I don't get it. This is the phrase that was going through my mind while reading the last quarter of this book. I don't get it.
Why does Bastian has to grovel? Exactly, what did he do to piss off Emir?? Because I honestly didn't get that part.
Overall, it is a nice and cute read, and I can say that it made me both laugh and cry at times. However, I felt the plot was lacking in some parts and the writing style definitely needs improvement.

Sebastian is a high school senior who has no idea what he is going to do after graduation, the only things he knows is that he loves playing football and he loves his team. During their last summer camp before the season starts, he meets the new addition to the team, his long estranged friend Emir. The two had been friends throughout all their childhood but hen they fell apart. Sebastian thinks it's time they for themy to mend what was broken, but they are juggling between Emir's extreme shyness and Bastian's insecurities.

As I was saying, I liked this book but there were a few plotholes and I still don't get why Emir is entitled to be an asshole while Sebastian has to always be the good one. He snaps once and everyone freaks out. Like, chill dudes, he just reached his limit.
I don't know I feel like that argument was kind of forced into the story to add some angst, and that's good because I can understand that, but I think it could have been handled better.

I love me a good soccer romance in which they want to create a safe space for queer people. I thought this one was cute and it touched on a couple of things. It was cute overall. At the beginning I was like a bit lost with so many characters. The friendship in this was so cute.

Such an uplifting book about love, friendship and acceptance, of ourselves and others.

This book was super adorable! For the most part, it read like really good fan fiction, which is personally the highest compliment I can give a character-driven book in terms of emotional fulfillment and dealing with character growth and feelings. However, there were parts where the plot wasn't very clear to me: characters were not introduced with enough information for me to know anything about them, or I could not tell why someone was supposed to be upset with someone else. That being said, this is a fun, delightful, and adorable romcom. If that is what you're looking for, I would highly recommend checking this out. (Plus, I just have to say it: this cover is possibly the cutest thing I've ever seen.)

Oh, I wanted to like this book so much! It has an interesting premise, and I'm a sucker for enemies -> friends -> more. But so many things just didn't work.

There were way too many characters introduced too quickly. They all start to run together for me. And it doesn't help that we learn everything about them when they're introduced (from complete physical description to all of their meaningful personality traits).

There also just...isn't a lot going on. It seems almost endless, just descriptions of soccer and parties and not much else.

The whole thing just feels very much like a first novel. It's got some promise, but it definitely falls short.

DNF - this was just bad, and I’m mad that I went in thinking it’d be a much better read. Props to it for the diversity and representation, but everything else was truly awful. I’m disappointed.

I can't read this. The writing is terrible. The characters are insufferable. The dialogue is cringe. And the representation is not great. Especially when it comes to the Latine character Giovanni. Ugh. I just don't care enough to read what's going to happen next.
