Essa foi uma releitura, então de certa forma é dificil dar minhas impressões do livro porque eu já conhecia a história e universo que a autora criou. Eu gosto da ambientação da história e de como a sociedade dos lobisomens funciona. Os personagens são interessantes, e no geral acho a leitura muito confortável e fluída. No entanto, esse livro se originou de um conto que a autora escreveu, e enquano o conto me deixa totalmente envolvida na história, o livro em si é um pouco mais lento. Apesar de ainda ser interessante, o conto é definitivamente melhor.

I was torn between a 4 and 5 star review for this one. I did love this book. It didn't have any real action until the end, but it was not boring or slow. I loved the characters. I love werewolf stories. I like how the author has explained wolves and pack set ups and mating bonds. The only thing I really didn't like about the book was there were a few parts were the author kept explaining the same thing over and over within a couple pages. It verged on the obnoxious and had me think things like "how many times and how many different ways are u going to tell me how a black witch gets powers". Other than that small annoyance I really loved this book and will continue this series and read the Mercy Thompson series (which I have not read)
I did read the novella [b:Alpha & Omega: A Companion Novella to Cry Wolf|5393637|Alpha & Omega A Companion Novella to Cry Wolf (Alpha & Omega, #0.5)|Patricia Briggs|http://d.gr-assets.com/books/1292996558s/5393637.jpg|5461162] which is also found in [b:On the Prowl|285212|On the Prowl|Patricia Briggs|http://d.gr-assets.com/books/1348557602s/285212.jpg|276710] . I would suggest for anyone to read that first. It is pretty much the first 3 chapters of the book and without it I don't think some of Anna and Charles relationship and interactions would make much sense. In fact if I hadn't read that I think I would not have liked about half the book.

I read and love the Mercy Thompson series so of course I wanted to read this series as well and I’m happy that I did.
Of course I already know most of the world and setting from the Mercy books and some of the characters but of course we get some new elements and storyline and some more new characters and that made the book just great and fun to read.
I should say that I never was big fan of Bran, Sam and especially Charles and had a bit of a rough start with Charles in the beginning. But at the end he stated growing on me…. I’m still not his biggest fan and more than once wanted to punch him but I did up liking and understanding more of him.
Also I did not read the pre-quell Alpha & Omega and think it would have helped especially in the beginning of the book. I was a bit confused but things cleared up fairly fast.
Anna, I really enjoyed her , while she started out pretty timid and quiet you could still tell she is a pretty strong charades, She thinks things through and she will not back to down from people. She is really kinda feisty and of course has her funny moments.
Charles as mentioned not my fav but he is growing on me. Anna just makes him so much more likeable. But I did enjoy seeing a bit more of his magic from his mom’s site .
I liked how Anna and Charles grew and got to know each other as mates and as a couple throughout the book, it was fun to follow them.
Bran, like I said earlier he I never really liked him all that much but after this book I actually like him a lot. We learn a lot more about him, his history and really Charles and Sam’s history as well .
Asil. Ohhh Asil, I really liked him, he became one of my favorites in this book, I knew from the first time we meet him there is more to him. I just like everything about him.
Overall I really enjoy this book, I really enjoyed and looking forward to learn more about Omegas I thought it was very interesting. I also liked the witch part and always love a good witch stories and such.
So in short I really enjoyed this first book in this series and looking forward to book two

Two and half stars. Not on the same level as Briggs' Mercy Thompson series. I just couldn't stay focused on this one and it fell a little flat for me.

This book begins with so many questions in my mind as a reader. I was thoroughly interested after the intro of the book, but then it jumps. I think the first few chapters threw me off more than I expected. They just didn't seem to be coherent to the reader: no back story, just a big jump from one scene to the next. About chapter 6, I started to get interested to see where the story leads but after the intro still wishing for some back story. Why was the mate shot? What happened to the omega? How did they meet? What did the prologue have to do with the rest of the story? Why is the funeral meaningful? So many questions and so few answers from the author. All though I did enjoy the story and conflicts in his book. I love a happy ending, and the author did a great job. If you’re going to make so much of the story about the character's traits and personality, it would be nice to have more info. The reader knowing about her past in greater detail would help the book connect to the reader. It was rarely mentioned or skipped over as the current event because more heated. I never got the answers from the beginning of the book. Although I did enjoy the book, I still feel like I am missing a connection to the female character by the end of the story. I won’t be reading more in this series.

First in the Alpha & Omega urban fantasy series (second in the overall Mercyverse) and revolving around the wolf pack in Montana. The couple focus is on Anna and Charles.
This story carries on directly after On the Prowl: "Alpha & Omega", 0.5 (Mercyverse, 1.1), which I seriously recommend that you read first.
In 2008, Cry Wolf won the P.E.A.R.L. (Paranormal Excellence Award for Romantic Literature) award, and in 2009, it won the DABWAHA Romance Tournament for Best Paranormal/Urban Fantasy/SF Romance.
My Take
I adore Patricia Briggs' work!! She's taken an interesting twist on the werewolf trope and includes a great cast of characters with a tremendous amount of back history while Anna gets an introduction to how a pack really works..
It'll be a hunt: one for a killer and one for trust, confidence. A tale of confidence-building and an unusual courtship as Charles works to gain Anna's trust and love while Anna struggles to find self-worth. And again Briggs twists this with Anna's being an Omega wolf who discovers her inner stubbornness as she stands up to other wolves. It's a beautiful evolution that heartens.
It's such a dichotomy. Bran is characterized as a powerhouse, capable of cowing any wolf, and he looks "like a college student, a computer geek, or maybe an art major". It's a concept that throws me off, and I find myself wishing I could see him for real. I know, how unreal a thought is that!? Then there's Charles. A man/wolf whom everyone but his father and brother fears. It's what makes his changes so fascinating to read.
I love how angry Bran and Charles are in this. The lengths to which they go to ensure Anna's safety. Well, Charles does have an extra incentive in this, and it is funny how possessive he is about this new mate who is quite unsure about the whole situation. And I adore how Charles reacts to Anna. How protective, worried, and gone he is, *laughing softly*. He's also worried how Anna will react when she's exposed to one of his duties for his father. It's this bit that felt overdone and annoying.
I love how Briggs introduces the pack. No info dumps, but a series of show scenes that explain how the pack operates, the rules, the consequences, and introduces the core characters. It's a be-yoo-ti-ful example for writers on providing background data that fills the reader in on the story universe.
Whew, that scene with Leah was i-n-t-e-n-s-e. What. A. Bitch! Ya can't help wondering why Bran ever married her, an explanation that occurs at the end and will wring your heart.
What can I say? If you like werewolf stories, you do not want to miss the combined Mercyverse!

Leah is the Marrok's mate. Her nature and attitude provide an alternate look-in at the negative effects of the mating bond.
Aspen Creek is also a sanctuary for wolves on the edge, including Hussan, Asil "The Moor", who wants to die. He has lived too long — 1,300 years — and doesn't trust his ability to control himself. He maintains some control by cultivating his roses. His mate, another Omega, Sarai, was murdered a few hundred years ago. Linnea is the witch who promised to teach Mariposa.

Sage Carhardt is a sweet woman, er, werewolf, who had been brutalized. Hank is the Montana pack's human pilot. Reverend Mitchell led the funeral service. Heather Morrell is a human who was raised in Aspen Creek and works for the Forest Service. Her uncle, Colin Taggart, is also a ranger and a werewolf. Jack, a former policeman, is one of Heather's coworkers who saw too much.
The Tri-Cities in Washington state is…
…where Mercy Thompson, a coyote shifter, lives, and Adam Hauptman is the Columbia Basin Pack Alpha. A nice bit of tension there, lol.
Walter Rice is a former veteran of black ops who atones by living as a hermit in the wilderness in northwestern Montana. Jimmy had been a teammate in Vietnam.
The Western Suburb Chicago Pack was…
…sick for a very long time. Boyd Hamilton is the new Alpha now that Leo is dead. Isabella was Leo's mate. Members of the pack include George and Joshua who were inclined Leo's way while Thomas, a submissive wolf, will drive Anna's things to Montana. Rashid is a doctor.
Mick was Anna's boss at Scorci's, a Chicago restaurant. Kara lives in the same building as Anna and is a good neighbor and friend. The Torvalis bloodline had interbred with gypsies and was the only Western European line of witches to survive the Inquisition.
Mary Alvarado, a.k.a., Mariposa, is a witch, a dark witch hunting Asil.
An Omega wolf is born that way and is outside the pack hierarchy with "all the protective instincts of an Alpha and none of the violent tendencies"; a wolf's instinct normally leads him (or her) to protect an Omega at all costs. A submissive wolf doesn't feel the need to fight and can be trusted. An Alpha draws on pack magic to give himself an edge in speed or quicker healing, lets him control his wolves or find them, or feeds off their rage. Guardians are the result of a witch torturing a human to death; one witch family in Europe had held the spell that made it possible close to their black hearts.
The Cover and Title
The cover makes me think "graphic novel" with its comics-like Anna in a short black jacket over her red bandeau top and jeans and a snarling Charles in his wolf guise. Behind them is a range of fluorescent greens creating an eerie background of swaying tree trunks and stalking wolves.
I think the title reflects the emotions of a number of the characters with Cry Wolf expressing Bran's and Asil's grief and Anna's and Charles' fears and hopes.

Yes, Briggs pulls in the insta-love but only as a glancing tap. It's Charles and Brother Wolf who are dumbstruck with want while Anna is attracted, doesn't know why, and shies away (or is it recoiling in distrust?) from the whole idea.I do love Anna's assessment of Charles:
"'I know about killers,' she told him. "Leo's pack had Justin … a killer.' … 'You are justice.'"
