Hard to review this as it took me a long time to finish it, although no fault of its own. However, I think it's beautifully written with a compelling narrative. It's a touching story and you feel for these young girls and the world they're growing up in. Wish I could elaborate but these were my lasting impressions.

I had higher expectations for another Brooklyn partially because as a child and teenager I read all of her books and absolutely loved them . This book was a must read for me because I had not read her in a while. Perhaps as an adult reading a child's point of view is not always something we feel we can relate to and more often than not I feel if I was younger this might have resonated with me more.

Another Brooklyn is a lyrical prose that moves back and forth through time and space as a woman recounts her coming-of-age in 1970s Brooklyn through fragmented memories that reveal the ways in which her father, brother, friends, community and, most of all, herself navigate and cope with the turns of life. Jacqueline Woodson is something else with that pen.

I’ll know how better to articulate how I feel when I inevitably come back to read it again with a highlighter and sticky tabs in hand.

So, so gorgeous and heartbreakingly so.
