Who doesn’t love a good gothic romance? If you don’t, then this is not the book for you. I first read this when I was about 10, in one of my grandmother’s Reader’s Digest Condensed Books collections. I loved it back then and kept going with Phyllis Whitney, Victoria Holt, and Catherine Cookson (whose books are at least gothic-adjacent). I was surprised at how well this has aged.
