Michael Bennett squares up against a killer who is copycatting famous killers, including a mad bomber and Son of Sam. He is on a task force, and winds up seeking assistance from Special Agent Emily Parker, who helped him in his last case.

Eesh! Talk about farting out a book! This doesn't consist of much else than descriptions of what Big Bad Mr. Berger is wearing and where he drives to while carrying out his crimes, along with lots of travel descriptions as Bennett goes to the crime scenes and comments constantly on how badly he wants to catch this psycho.

Maybe if you focused less on telling us your destination and how you got there, maybe you'd catch your target a little sooner, eh?

Along with the endless descriptions of the routes Bennett and Berger take, there's a dumb, unnecessary subplot of the Bennett clan going up against a local thuggish family while on vacation. Why was that even there?!? There's a half-assed love triangle featuring Bennett, his nanny and Emily, both if whom he treats surprisingly appallingly. The climax is lame and the book ends very abruptly.

It's typically fast-paced, like most James Patterson books, but its plot is utterly flimsy, and you can really feel the padding.

Overall the plot wasn't bad, but I kept getting distracted with the romance subplot. It feels like those parts bring the book down because it seems crazy that every woman he meets is crazy about him.

Great book and great character!!! Thanks to Mel at Schooners for turning me on to this series. I'll be reading another very soon!

I very much enjoyed this book. I do feel, however, that the ending was a bit abrupt and not in keeping with the rest of the story. A little bit of a twist ending, but not in the best sense.

So, so predictable. I like the Mike Bennett character, as well as the NYC locations, but the plot was thin and not very heart-stopping.

Eh, not as good as his other ones. It seemed like a slow moving book to get into it and it was a bit frustrating. The characters just seemed a bit of a stretch along with their crimes.

This book was pretty intense and had me gripped from the start.
The only thing for me was that I felt the book ended rather abruptly.
Even the epilogue left we wondering.
