This is a masterwork of art and story.
Often with visuals it show not tell. With story it's tell all.
Inference can vary.
The Absolute Sandman requires interaction from the reader. Knowledge, passion, empathy.

It's a masterful, joyous, heartbreaking read.

Add it to your list.

Read this right before I watched the TV show adaptation, and was thoroughly blown away with the art, story, and characters. Morpheus is a fun, if a bit sullen, perspective character, whose relationships with the weird and colorful rest of the cast really serve to flesh him out. The back half of the book is definitely better paced than the front half, with a more developed and complex narrative, and less edgy raunchy 80s nonsense but I think as a full read-through it still feels coherent and a logical continuation of the first half. 4.5/5 would read again just for Morpheus's silly goth hairdo and glowing eyes

honestly, good shit, i’d tried reading just the preludes & nocturnes before and didn’t quite “get” it, but after watching the first few episodes of the new tv show i decided to give it another go. really nicely told, like little poems. the comics format also allows gaiman to stray a bit in his storytelling, to explore different aspects. it’s really great. a central character who is barely there, who lives essentially through the other characters. who is the thread, but not really the hero of the stories. all well, quite dark but really gripping.
would have been 5/5 stars but one entire star off because i HATE the drawing style.
