There were many elements of this book that I wish had been portrayed in 'Blade Runner' but I'm also glad they weren't because it keeps the film and book separate. This was one of those books that would initially make me think one thing but as I kept thinking about it the truth would be revealed. Philip, you clever minx.
My favorite focal points in this book include the human need to find purpose of life by taking care of something and the human love affair with technology.

Absolutely amazing science fiction that makes you think!
Recommend it to everyone looking to start out in the genre or people that haven't read it yet. It is great.

This book was unexpected.
I feel like maybe I'm not deep enough to understand the ending, though >_> The whole thing with the Mercer religion was weird, not sure exactly what that was about. And, why is everyone obsessed with animals? And since when were all humans super empathetic? I feel like I'm missing something.
So, he killed the androids he was after, the Rozen robot killed his goat, and then he 'fused' with this Mercer guy somehow and found a toad that turned out to be electric... *sigh* I feel like the movie will make the story more mainstream, I'm gunna go watch it and see how much they changed it from the source material.

I forgot to log this when i read it i can’t remember the very insightful stuff i def had to say at the time, alas i will have to wing it:
  • again i find myself feeling slightly annoyed by some of the themes of like ~finding truth behind the apparent reality~ bc of the hours of my life i’ve spent looking after people experiencing crack psychosis and how tiring I personally found that
  • HOWEVER i shouldn’t let that put me off cos again I like how Philip K Dick writes this stuff and i like it almost as a study of paranoia as well
  • (disclaimer - I am not saying this to mock him or the book or anyone experiencing psychosis or paranoia, - drug-induced or not - and i think a bit of paranoia is good for the soul)
  • I’m also sort of a conspiracy guy myself anyway & ppl in glass houses shouldn’t throw stones
  • v funny and silly, enjoyed the selfishness and jealousy
  • I think because i knew elements of the plot and i know what Mr Dick is about, I wasn’t like taken aback by how good it was or anything, cos it read like how I expected it to read, but I appreciate this as an iconic work and sort of a classic, and it’s definitely worth reading

3,5.
