If the title isn't enough to scare you off give this one a read. You will/won't regret it.

Reminded me a bit of John Franklin Bardin - both in what I liked and didnt like about his writing style. This is a detective noir with weird elements moving into the horrific and grotesque.

Unlike Bardin there are elements that are not entirely explained and there is no neat resolution. The violence and macabre elements are told in a very effective, matter of fact way and it is deeply, deeply, creepy as well as exciting.

I am not into this level of violence and gore and to an extent I enjoyed it, despite these elements rather than because of them. Also whilst the psychological elements of what the protagonists is hinted at there is less focus on these elements than I would like.

Still a dark, chillingly effective tale that if you have a strong stomach I strongly recommend.
