As someone who struggled with obsessions and compulsions during this age range, I felt very seen by this book in a way no other o.c.d media has ever done. I read it when it came out and again in preparation for the movie release. It is a painful, but cathartic book to me. The romance/mystery part of the plot is engaging, but not the part that stands out.

seriously one of the most amazing books i have read. especially because it's really touching with everything going on in the world around. it brought me back into the world of reading, a tough thing to do. not even kidding this book is amazing to read if you having a chance. some may think it starts off slow like me but it gets better as it hits the middle.

The first time I read Turtles All the Way Down, I felt seen by Aza's thought spirals. Captured. Imprisoned. Stuck in this book like I was stuck in my body. I was in a very anxious place when I read it, so I felt like Aza's thoughts were my own. My spirals weren't the same as hers, but I would sit and wonder if my fate was to end up like her.

This time around, I don't think there's any "ending up like Aza."

Even though she's so afraid that she's not in control of her own narrative, Aza feels like she is. It doesn't seem like John Green Aza's thoughts as I read them; it seems like I'm getting a look into Aza's head. Her head does seem similar to what mine once was, and in a way similar to what mine is, but I don't see that as a scary thing anymore. When she felt crazy, I felt crazy. I see myself and my growth in her improvements, and I feel hopeful in my endings.

I got this book the day it came out. I was so excited to read it. I knew, because I watch every Vlogbrothers video, that there was a theme of mental health - particularly OCD and Anxiety - but I didn't think it would be so hard for me to read. I experience both of these mental illnesses as Aza does but it hit a little to close to home for me to read back in October. I started to read it again in the middle of January, when my mental health was in a better place, and I fell in love with it. I highly recomend to anyone who has extreme anxiety or OCD that they hold off on reading this book until they feel that their mental health is in a good enough place. If you don't have these conditions, please read this book, if not for the beautiful, amazing story, then to understand what it is like to go through life with these thoughts.
