A basic introduction to the philosophy of yoga, focusing on: the works of Shankara (the three
coverings") and Patanjali (the eight branches of yoga), the seven spiritual laws of yoga, meditation, pranayama, and asanas. The information is very accessible--summarizing the more difficult texts of Shankara and Patanjali--and actionable. It is aimed towards those who mainly practice the asana limb of yoga and who would like to learn more about the philosophy as a whole.

All in all this is a really good read. Especially if thisnis the type of material that you usually read. As a first timer I found myself getting dizzy, kind of feeling like Chopra was talking in circles almost. Still I took away some great lessons from this book which I think is the most important thing about reading.

Spiritual Insight

Deepak Chopra has a unique way of expressing and integrating universal ideas that the reader can easily digest and accept. In this short book he provides 7 guiding principles which can be considered the foundation of enlightenment. This is an excellent guide, and one that can be read over and over.
