I was reeeealllly back and forth with this book. It took me a while to get into, but I tried to push through, in hopes it would get better, and it did! I liked the imagery of depression in this book, and it was very relatable for me as I struggle with it myself. I really got into the book about 40% though, and zipped through the rest. I felt so emotional during certain parts of the books, and watching Avery’s journey. This book was too short in my opinion. The events that happened were not long enough. I wanted more. But I’m ready to see what happens to Avery and her “misfit” family in the next book

Avery hasn't had the easiest time in life. Foster homes, one after another, strange happenings all around her. She feels a darkness that she can't understand, but at the same time, why wouldn't she have darkness. She feels she has nobody, can't trust anyone, can't feel comfortable because one day all can just go away…..
Until one day, one field trip, one boy changes everything. She is getting answers, but there are more questions. Can she save herself from her darkness and find her light?
I enjoyed this book deeply, and I felt Avery's pain at times. Behind the eyes people look into, we don't always really see the real person. What they are feeling, what they are going through. Child of Night brings a wonderful story with a serious theme in the background.
