I was at 3 stars until the last lines of the book. And that bumped it to 4. A chilling, perfect ending. I just wish the rest of the book hadn’t felt so mediocre.

This was DEEPLY UPSETTING, very well-written, a page-turner, had to finish to know the ending but I could never bring myself to re-read this. Goodbye, book!

This pains me to review. I absolutely LOVED Ashley Audrain's first book. It was 5 stars for me! So naturally I was excited to read this one. I expected to be thrilled and creeped out or have my head spinning and guessing the whole time.

This is a domestic thriller (BARELY. More so a general fiction with the tiniest dash of thrill) but completely different from her first book. There are a few different perspectives in the book, all from different women in the neighborhood, and they all have secrets. As I was reading, I was expecting it to be somewhat of a "Desperate Housewives" vibe but that was NOT the case AT. ALL.

Dear lord was this book a SNOOZE FEST!!!!!!!! First of all, there are SO many characters that it was difficult at times to keep track of who was who, who is married to who, etc. But literally nothing happens in the book?? But so much happens is thrown at you! I was waiting and waiting and waiting for it to get juicy and crazy and it literally never did.

And in the end, there's quite literally no closure from ANYONE!?!!? Except maybe the last chapter's character. But the other 3 perspectives? Forget about it! Guess we'll never know what happened to them or what they ended up deciding! (okay now that I think about it...possibly only 2 characters we won't know about).

I cannot describe to you how frustrating and disappointing this book was. Seriously so boring and the only reason I powered through was because I liked the author's last book so much.

Skip this one. Please. If you're reading it and having doubts...do yourself a favor. DNF. It is not worth it.

Oh My

I picked this up based off of a Booktok recommendation. I’m glad that I listened. This book was so messy! Everybody had major skeletons in their closets. Lawd! Their little section of suburbia had so much going on. They were some twisted folks. There was a lot of loss and sadness, too. It was a lot to digest. Most of the characters weren’t likable, but in a way that amplified the storyline. I was waiting for them to get exposed. I enjoyed the whole book, but the very last line in the book was the perfect mic drop. I loved it.

This book was absolutely not for me. Not only could I not relate at all to the characters in the book, none of the characters or their arcs were particularly compelling to me. I found myself angry at the choices each of them made and found that some of the concerns in the book could have been mitigated if some of the characters had honest conversations with themselves and each other.
