Eh...at times funny. At times not at all funny (but trying to be).

These odd comic essays were first published in the New Yorker and although one or two may get a chuckle out of you, there is no laugh-out-loud hilarity here. Still, Martin is an adept writer and he gets it right more than he gets it wrong. Not what I would recommend for your first Martin book, though.

I love Steve Martin- he's one of my favorite comedians.
A couple of these stories were entertaining but most were so absurd that I couldn't follow them.

Pure Drivel was just that. Going by the title, it didn't disappoint. It was a great book to clean to, because if you walked out of the room, you could easily miss parts of the book and know that nothing of any importance was said. It wasn't bad, but it wasn't good either. It was strictly in the meh category. Steve Martin is a great reader and a funny person - definitely one of my favorite actors - and he made this book enjoyable, even if only a little. There were some funny parts, but it was largely forgettable. It's a good quick read (or listen, in my case) so if you want something with not a lot of meat to it, this is the book for you.
