SpoilerI am definitely going to have to read this book again. I do not think I am going to give it a rating this time around because I did not do it justice. I read this book for my class on Socrates and there is just something about having to read a book for a class that makes it so much harder to do enthusiastically. I had been dying to have a reason to get a nice copy of this book, but it is just so dense and complex that I really need to be able to read it slowly and at my own pace. There are so many interesting philosophical concepts and I have always loved the way Plato writes. This is the book that first got me into political theory and really just philosophy in general. I have no doubts that I will read it again when I do not feel forced to do so and then I will be able to give my full opinion on it. I think this would be a great book to annotate as well as challenge certain arguments that are made. I have always loved the Cave Allegory because I think it just beautifully gets his point across and it just makes so much sense to be and he was able to use it to argue for so many different aspects of learning and ganging knowledge that others do not have and how that is perceived. There will always be a special place in my heart for the Republic and I look forward to reading it again and seeing what new things I learn. I became interested in philosophy because this book asked the question I would love to know the answer to. What is justice? Sadly, it seems we may never find the answer, but it sure does allow us to ask some very interesting questions and receive some very interesting attempts at answers.
