Received a copy for a honest review..

When I asked to review I didn't read the story line so it did take me a bit to catch on, (my fault). Overall I liked the story line and the fact of Kia family being so accepting of him, it's a beautiful thing to read. My heart broke for Jaime but happy he told his father, and was a nice to see that he finally trusted Kia to help him through everything. The way Kia used music as an intervention shows you the power music can have which I enjoyed very much because in one way or another everyone can relate to music. This was a really nice story.

Pff, this was an emotional read. Abuse is never easy, but in a way this story hit me hard.
Spoiler Maybe because it was still happening. And how it was handled by his family. I can't understand their reactions. I just can't. How can you ask someone to not report it to the police? Ugh.
At least Jamie had Kai and his family.

I would love to read more about Jamie and Kai. About their college-years and about their love.

I have a hard time reading books containing incest. The subject matter is a heinous one and I laud author Mia Kerick for attempting to tackle it in her newest book. When I got to the first part in Intervention where the history of incest was clearly stated, I didn’t think I’d be able to read the book. But, I pressed on. I’m not sure if it had to do with the skilled way in which Ms. Kerick wrote it or my determination to get through a troubling story. I say all this to be sure you know where I was while reading Intervention.

A story of one young man, and his family, going out of thier way to try to help another teen subjected to abuse.
Yeah, not an easy read, and it matters not a jot that these two were 'boyfriends' as the friendship was by far the biggest part of the relationship. I loved how they gradually worked through things, how they both used their passion, music for one, art for the other, to reach out and help.
I guess the low star ratings are because there is no 'everything will be ok, goodies always win, baddies will always lose' theme. This is a story, not a fable with an everything will be sunshine and rainbows if you 'do the right thing' message. But things can get better.

So you're wondering why the 4 stars not five?

Kai and his family are sooo perfect, understanding, and honest to god fantastic people. All of them. I bet even though they are all vegatarian hippies, who would rather step on a shard of glass than an ant, their poop don't smell. Only bad point is that brother Chuck is a bit messy.
And... the many 50+ word sentences, I think I counted one with 97, became a little annoying. A reader shouldn't be counting the number of words in a sentence. Maybe I'm a little OCD. Apologies.

BUT and this is a big one, I'd read this author again. Because hell yeah with the angst.
