I loved the humor of the narrators and the characters were easy to fall in love with

I really wanted to love this book. I LOVE reading historical fiction and ESPECIALLY about Tudor history. So Tudor alternate history sounded just awesome. And add some magical shape shifting and I thought wow this book was written for me. But I was let down by this book. The writing can be snarky at times, but even more heavily near the end of the book, so it wasn't that consistent. Also I felt like the characters were so flat. These are interesting characters with amazing traits and they go through some seriously dangerous situations, but I still felt blah about them and even the story line was kind of slow for me. I wish the EĆ°ian questions was explored more because that was a really fun part of the story. But some parts just kept repeating and got a little stale. I liked the ending, but I probably won't be reading the next book.

I can almost imagine the authors being a little too tipsy, having a heated debate over English history while being surrounded by their pets. And then, all of a sudden, everything clicks and in their alcohol-filled state, they decided to write this book.

The narration and added commentary by the authors are hilarious. It is more aloof and whimsical as it is not grounded (or loosely based) on history. I'm not particularly fond of either characters, as I can't quite take any of them seriously. Overall, if you just want to chill and read, this might be the book for you. However, don't take anything seriously or you'll be seriously offended.

Definitely one of the more interesting books I've read this year! I usually don't like retellings, but this one was so good. I sailed through it easily, even though it's on the longer side.
