This book is propped up by its writing. The prose is beautiful and lush, almost physical to read. The descriptions of beauty and decay coat your tongue, sink into your skin. This story was summarized as a woman rediscovering pleasure, and the reader is swept into her journey with ease.

The plot is challenging. Wealth, greed, race, food, science, sex and so much more are woven into the text. I liked the story even when it made me balk, but it drags slightly and I didn't find the ending satisfying.

I think there was more to absorb from this quick read, and I look forward to giving it another shot in the future. For now, I recommend this book to anyone who loves beautiful writing and rich people behaving badly.

This was a good read! I thought the plot was very interesting, and I love a queer apocalypse story about food. I found the writing style to be poetic in a way that challenged me and made me focus while I read. Overall, it was a pretty book that had funny and interesting themes. I didn’t love the ending, but I did love the acknowledgements page of all the food/restaurants/books that inspired the author.
